Until relatively recently, the development of mathematics was inextricably intertwined with the development of physics, and many fundamental developments in mathematics can be seen as answers to questions arising in physics. This unreasonable effectiveness [38] of mathematics in solving problems posed by physicists encouraged the gradual adoption of mathematical methods in the other physical sciences.
