President Fords War on Red Tape

Author: G. R. Boynton

For the past several decades Presidents have been noted for the wars they have fought. Lyndon Johnson was famous for the war on poverty and the war in Vietnam. President Nixon was famous for ending the war in Vietnam and his war against crime and corruption. President Ford, desiring to continue this tradition, upon assuming office immediately declared war on inflation. This war was known as WIN (Whip Inflation Now). It is difficult to recall, but in his last year in office inflation was only 4.8 percent. Having won that war, he proceeded to declare war against a more formidable foe--government forms or red tape. This war was known as RIP (Reduce Inessential Paper).
