STEM: An Integrated Approach

This year we began a two year integrated STEM Foundations course. The course is being taught by myself and David Prockop, a physics teacher. The course meets for six 45-minute periods and two 75-minute periods per week. It is designed to cover all of the material contained in standard geometry and algebra 2 courses as well as the basics of chemistry, biology, physics and introductory earth science. There will also be an introduction to computer programming as well as to engineering. We have just finished the first trimester and are excited by what has transpired. This month's column will describe some of the activities we have used.
