Video Game Makers at Electronic Arts
Author: Sarah Williams
On Andrea
Schiel's
most
exciting
day of
work, she helped Spiderman
escape from Ironman. Jose Caban
made time slow to a crawl so
that a golfer could see every
dimple on a soaring ball. And
Matt Yang worked like a puppet
master, controlling people's
emotions and actions.
Schiel, Caban, and Yang create video games for Electronic Arts (EA), the world's biggest video game company. EA makes over 500 games, including The Sims, Need for Speed, The Beatles: Rock Band, and Madden NFL.
The video games industry is huge, and the demand for game designers and engineers is strong. The sector hauled in nearly $5 billion in sales in the United States in the last month of 2009 alone. Compare this to Hollywood's annual box office intake in the United States-about $10 billion-and it's clear that games mean serious business.
